Elpac Electronics Introduces Several New RoHS Compliant External Power Supplies

Latest Models Offer The Functionality Of Existing External Power Supplies— In RoHS Compliant Versions

IRVINE, CA – January 5, 2006 – Elpac Electronics, Inc., a worldwide leader in accelerating the design and manufacture of superior-quality power supplies, custom docking stations and battery chargers, today announced that it has developed two new series of external power supplies that comply with the RoHS directive of the European Union.

The new models are part of the FW30 series (30 Watts DC output power at 12, 15, 18 and 24 Volts DC output) and the FW50 series (50 Watts DC output power at 12, 18 and 24 Volts DC output). Part numbers for the new models are assigned an “F” to denote they are “FREE” of all stipulated hazardous substances.

All safety agency and regulatory approvals have been completed on the FW30 and FW50 series including UL1950. All of the new models are CE marked and meet FCC class B and CISPR 22 class B emission limits. Samples and production quantities of the new models are in inventory and are ready to ship immediately.

“Elpac is in full support of the European Union and its environment-friendly directive,” said Marshall Wright, Elpac Chief Operating Officer. “While this is an extensive undertaking, we are firmly committed to making all applicable Elpac power supplies RoHS compliant.”

Wright continued, saying, “Elpac will carry two inventories for the short-term. This gives our customers ample opportunity in which to convert to RoHS compliant versions. In some cases, such as customers who do not currently sell in Europe, their preference may be to remain with current models.”

Some Elpac products, such as medical grade power supplies, do not face an immediate need to conform to the RoHS guidelines. “We are monitoring the regulatory situation and communicating with our customers regarding when this will become a necessity,” said Wright.

Information and data sheets on all newly compliant Elpac external power supplies are now available online at www.elpac.com/resources/rohs.html. Additionally, all of the new Elpac RoHS compliant external power supplies will be available on the company’s Fast Track program, with 1000 unit lots available at OEM pricing in three weeks or less ARO, FOB Asia. As with all Elpac Fast Track products, these new DC power supplies are backed by the company’s industry-leading five-year warranty.

About RoHS

RoHS (Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment) is a European Union (EU) directive that is designed to greatly reduce or eliminate the amounts of hazardous substances that go into landfills and other waste collection areas when electronic equipment is disposed.

The reduction of hazardous substances will be accomplished by banning six substances that have a history of posing risks to human health and to the environment. These six substances are lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ether.

The RoHS directive states that as of July 1, 2006, producers of certain categories of electrical or electronic equipment will not be able to offer for sale any product that contains any of the banned hazardous substances in the 25 European Union member nations.

About Elpac Electronics

Elpac Electronics, Inc. (www.elpac.com) is a leading manufacturer of power supplies, AC/DC adapters, custom docking stations and battery chargers. Based in Irvine, Calif., with manufacturing at a company-owned and operated facility in Shenzhen, China, Elpac combines innovative U.S. design capabilities with Chinese production efficiency.

The company emphasizes design and manufacturing techniques that far surpass industry norms. For example, all products are tested to “demonstrate” MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) of at least 100,000 hours at 40 degrees Celsius (compared to many manufacturers who merely “calculate” MTBF at a lower temperature).

Elpac is credited with an exceptional customer service record, evidenced by surveys scoring customers’ satisfaction at 92 percent, far above the national average of 74 percent (according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index survey conducted by the University of Michigan Business School).

Elpac’s most popular products are available in OEM quantities, at OEM pricing, in three weeks or less FOB Asia.
